I used to come home from work exhausted but unable to pinpoint what (if anything) I had accomplished that day. I felt like I was always running to keep up with everything and everyone, but slowly falling behind. Not anymore.

These days, I still come home tired sometimes, but also with a feeling of real accomplishment. My life changed once I took control of my ever-growing list of to-dos and responsibilities, and yours can, too, by following five easy steps.

Step 1: Use the Tools That You Already Have

Investigating new productivity tools is possibly the most effective form of procrastination ever devised by mankind. Don’t even think about it.

For now, use whatever tool you already have. Maybe that’s an app that came built-in on your phone or computer. Maybe it’s pen and paper. If it can track your to-do list, set it up and get to work.

Spending an extended time using this tool will clarify which features are useful, which are disposable, and which are missing altogether. Once you have that information, you’ll be ready to try out some of the other tools available on the market.

Step 2: Capture Everything
